Trudy at PizzaExpress Soho, 10th February, 1.30pm
Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and even the Beatles all drew inspiration from the freewheeling style of Jack Kerouac and the 1950s Greenwich Village ‘Beat Poets’. This show features their songs alongside some of the super-hip jazz of the era.
Sarah, Trudy, Simon and Geoff have all worked closely with 94-year-old Bob Dorough and the late, great Fran Landesman, two key figures on the 1950s New York scene. Their witty, razor-sharp lyrics are featured together with the elegant vocalese of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross and vividly evoke the cool, stylish world of Mad Men, hipsters and beatniks.

Join Anita Wardell and me at this year's Xmas Boot Camp!
In this years Jazz Singing School Christmas Boot Camp 2016 (28th – 30th December) Anita Wardell and I are holding a new three-day course. Join us for another inspiring jazz singing course.
On the first two days of the course, we are covering vocal technique and warm-ups, as well as more jazzy exercises based on feel and groove. We look at phrasing, improvisation and solo building, incorporating technique to facilitate these ideas. The class splits into two groups, and each group studies with both Anita and me.
On day three, we are working with a rhythm section, and participants choose their own material to work on. Anita and I lead the session. In the evening concert, each participant is given the opportunity to perform to an audience.
All in all, it's going to be an intensive, inspiring and enjoyable experience.

New Album: The House
My latest album The House is a collaboration with pianist Andrea Vicari. For the past few years we've been performing duo gigs around London, and Andrea’s beautiful tunes have provided me with the inspiration to write some new lyrics.
I really wanted the challenge of singing and writing something stylistically new, and Andrea’s songs have been the perfect vehicle. My lyrics are about people and places in my life, and I hope my honesty will resonate with audiences and perhaps make them reflect on different aspects of their own lives.
The album is a change of direction – stylistically the tunes are more contemporary sounding. The drummer-less quartet is chamberlike in quality. The melodies are haunting and the arrangements have strong counterpoint lines.
Joining Andrea and me on the album are Geoff Gascoyne on bass and Martin Hathaway on sax, flute and clarinet.

1st International Jazz Voice Conference
I am so excited to be chosen to perform at the 1st International jazz Voice conference in Helsinki in October.
My lecture concert will tell the story of the Art of Vocalese and my personal discovery of the art form. Vocalese is taking an instrumental solo and putting words to it. Great exponents of the Art are King Pleasure, Jon Hendricks and Kurt Elling to name a few.
Jazz Singing School is a new website I have been working on with my long time Aussie pal Anita Wardell.
We have joined together to build an educational website. It’s for anyone who is interested in singing jazz from beginners to advanced level singers.
Anita and Trudy are currently organising a Xmas Jazz Voice Boot Camp to celebrate the launch of the site, details will be available soon.
